Last night I was asked, as we lay still after a long day, did I have a good weekend? Yes, I believe I did. No hustle and bustle of most weekends. No timeframes to adhere to. No alarm clocks to wake me. Friday night we dined on all-you-can-eat pork sandwiches with homemade mac&cheese and sweet tea. Heaven! Then we went to the movies and enjoyed my favorite candy, Reece's Pieces. No tub of popcorn this time-we've decided it doesn't really taste that good. For $6 dollars, I can be with my guys and reminisce on when I was my sons age and how my aunt would take me to the movies. Back then, we'd sneak in bags of popped popcorn, cans of pop and boxes of candy. I don't know who we thought we were fooling with that huge purse but the teenaged theater workers never cared to check.
My son was excited to report back to daycare to ask who else had seen Star Trek in the movie theater. Speaking of my son, he wants to wear both deodorant and cologne, at the ripe age of 8. School will be starting soon, sooner than I anticipated and I'm excited for him. Since the move, he hasn't met too many kids his age and I hope he makes lots of friends, real soon. I remember what it was like, as a child, moving to another side of town. Brand new house, school, friends, neighborhood….
Note to self: do not add cucumber to fruit punch as recipe states. Not a hit at the party! Sadly, after a revival attempt, the punch could not be saved. I've tried several new recipes lately and what I've taken away from those experiments-stick with the tried and true methods I already know. These newfangled things just aren't working out!
The weekend ended with a late night scooter stroll up and down the sidewalk with my son as I swatted away mosquitoes and he had a blast. The battle with the air conditioner remains. It's been a long and valiant fight and it's one that I think we will win! Autumn can't get hear soon enough….
