Poor little guy

Last night, with all 3 kids running the house, we attempted to bring a temporary solution to our broken air conditioning problem. In the meantime, my son and I sat down to a steaming hot pizza for dinner. He had just had a dentist appointment and all went well. I was hoping he'd need me there, sitting next to him, holding his hand but he did just fine-sadly for me! Anywho, as we were talking about our day, I asked son #2 about Kindergarten. He proceeds to tell me his teacher's name and it sounded like Miss Wheeze. That cracked my son up but it made son #2 upset and frustrated because we couldn't understand him. He then repeated the name several times as I tried to decipher his speak. Miss Weeks? Miss Weegs? Miss Huh? Turns out, her name is Miss Reece. I asked his father, is his teacher's name Miss Reece? because I couldn't understand him. He said, something like that.

Hmmmm. That response would tell me that he's offended by my not understanding his son, who clearly has speech issues that have gone unattended. How does one tell parent's that their child needs professional help? Now that he'll be attending a real school, not a daycare, maybe the staff will see the need and suggest a speech therapist. He often cannot be understood, gets frustrated, gives up and walks away. I've seen it before, the parents can understand the child just fine and think everyone else can too. Then the child gets to school and they can't make friends because they can't communicate. The teacher gets frustrated and so on.
